Hot buttered rum usually means a powder packet that drinks gritty, or a tub of batter you made in November and regret by January. This is neither — one of the only liquid hot buttered rum mixes anywhere: real salted butter, dark brown sugar and molasses, and ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and allspice, already smooth in the bottle. Nothing to melt, nothing to muddle, nothing sandy at the bottom of the mug.

A generous pour in a mug, boiling water over it, then an ounce and a half of dark rum. That's the fireplace drink, done properly, in under a minute. It moonlights well past the classic — stirred into coffee, or in a Thomas & Jeremiah when the rain sets in. This is the one bottle in the lineup that wants the worst weather you've got.

Contents may separate in storage — warm gently and shake to recombine before pouring. Once opened, refrigerate and use within 90 days; unopened, it keeps for two years from the date of manufacture.

How to wield it

A syrup is an ingredient – not sparingly, not heavily. Right down the middle, where flavor lives.

  • Proper pour0.75 oz per drink

  • Cost per drinkabout $0.66

Runs well with white rum, aged rum, gin, tequila – and any of its shelf-mates. Syrups conspire well together.

No liquor? No problem. Soda water, lemonade, iced coffee, a scoop of vanilla ice cream – this bottle does not judge.
